Damage Control
Asking a business for financial advice may seem like a reasonable solution when credit problems become unmanagable. Companies form coast to coast appeal to consumers with poor credit histories promising to clean up credit reports, for a fee. They can't do anything that you can't do yourself. Only time and a real effort to get out of debt by repaying loans will improve anyone's credit report.
If you are thinking of getting financial advice, be cautious and consider these points:
Find out what services the business provides and what it costs.
Don't rely on oral promises. Get everything in writing before you sign anything.
Check out the company with your local consumer protection office and the better Business Bureau on the companies location. They just might be able to tell you if other consumers have registered complaints against the business.
